Personal Recorded Instruction

Personal Recorded Instruction is very easy and a great choice if you aren’t able to work with me in person! Simply send me a short recording of your live or studio performance, and I will offer professional, constructive feedback recorded to DVD on the three areas below. Be sure to enclose questions with your recording, either on camera or in written form.
1) Performance Assistance: Video-record yourself playing in a live setting or with a recording (3 to 5 minutes of footage.) Ask me questions regarding phrasing, form, fills, grooves, overall concept, so on.
2) Technical Assistance: Video-record yourself with close-ups on your hands. Pose questions regarding grip, arm angle, hand and finger positions, or muscle tension. To demonstrate, use rudiments such as single strokes, accent patterns, rebound strokes, flams, and drags. If you wish, also describe what you want to accomplish with your technique both short- and long-term, and I will suggest a course of action appropriate for your current ability level.
3) Reading Assistance: Video-record yourself playing exercises or a song. (Be sure to verbally state the time signature on camera, and count off the tempo before you begin playing. Please also include a “still” shot or a copy of the music.) Pose questions about challenging rhythms (ex: ”How would I count this?”), notation (ex: “What does this mean?”), meter changes (ex: “How do I subdivide the beat to make the conversion to the new meter?”), and the like.
“HOW TO” DETAILS
1) Use a blank VHS tape, mini DV tape, mini DVD or DVD format for your recording. When you complete the recording, review it to be sure you’ve included everything you want me to see. Ask your specific questions within the recording or by writing.
2) Mail the recording/questions to: Jeff Redlawsk, P.O. Box 2747, Redwood City, California 94062; or email your files to jeff@jeffredlawsk.com. Make sure to include *your* contact mailing address, email, and phone, too! If you choose to mail the recording, please also email me so I know your recording is on its way. Once I’ve received the recording and can open all files, I will email a confirmation of receipt.
3) Kindly send a check for ½ the cost of the service ($50 paid to the order of
Mo Music) to my P.O. box listed above.
4) Once I receive and deposit your check, I will review your recording. If I have questions at this juncture, I will set up a phone conference with you.
5) When I have completed my work on your PRI, I will email you a file allowing you a one-time viewing/sample of the PRI. This file cannot be downloaded. If you have questions or concerns at this time, you may request one alteration at no charge.
6) At this time please send the remaining $50 in check form to my P.O. Box.
7) Feel free to phone or email one time after your DVD is sent to you — this is your opportunity to clarify my previous comments/feedback or to answer other related questions. After this exchange, our contract is fulfilled.
$100.00 total cost reflects my time in reviewing your recording, analyzing the performance, formulating exercises and comments for you, filming your DVD; my return mailing cost; and our conversation after PRI files are returned to you.
